Are you thinking about getting married in the Canadian Rockies? Our team at Elope in Banff has had the opportunity to help many couples plan their dream elopements or micro-weddings at some of the Rockies’ most iconic locations.
Recently, our wedding planner, Christianne, had the opportunity to assist a very special couple at one of our top Canmore wedding venues in Peyto Lake. Amber and John came all the way from Australia to experience a Rockies elopement, and we just loved working with them! Keep reading to learn more about Amber & John’s love story and all the highlights of their Elope in Banff wedding.
Getting to Know Our Couple
When we met Amber and John during our consultation call, we knew we were getting the opportunity to work with truly special people. They are one of those couples that you meet and immediately understand why they are perfect for each other.
During our first planning session, their clear mutual love for each other and excitement about their wedding set the tone for our entire partnership.
They exuded a joyful and authentic energy from the get-go, and welcomed our team with open arms—they even brought us snacks from Australia at our in-person consultation! Their genuine kindness and warmth made us all the more excited to help plan their dream wedding.
Choosing the Package
Amber and John chose the Peyto Lake Viewpoint for their ceremony. Peyto Lake is one of the most glacier-fed lakes in the region, nestled between large, green hillsides that go on for miles, making it an ideal choice for a Rockies destination wedding.

- 3-hour photography session
- Wedding day transportation
- Professional hair and makeup for Amber
- Flowers
- Marriage license and certificate
- Wedding officiant

Capturing the First Look
Amber and John stayed at the Fairmont Château Lake Louise and booked two separate rooms for the first night. They got ready separately to make the first look that much more special!
Our team helped Amber unpack her dress and a few other detailed items from back home (including a stuffed kolala that joined us for the whole day). Amber has excellent taste; everything she brought with her was simply beautiful!
Our couple decided to have their first look around a corner at the Fairmont Château Lake Louise, and John’s reaction to seeing his beautiful bride-to-be was so special to witness.
Amber and John decided to give their wedding vows in private at the Fairmont before the official ceremony at Peyto Lake. While we didn’t hear what they said, our photos and videos captured a truly romantic and unforgettable moment between them.
Enjoying the Wedding Ceremony
After the first look, we met Twyla (commissioner) and Steph (guitarist) at Petyo Lake, and hiked out to the viewpoint together. We wanted Amber and John to get an opportunity to soak in the beautiful scenery, so we didn’t rush to the top!
Amber and John got to enjoy their ceremony in short bursts of rain and clouds, which added an extra layer of romance to the setting. The weather added such a unique element to their wedding. When friends and family ask them about it down the line, they can say they were married on the side of a mountain inside a rain cloud!
Between the beautiful ceremony performed by Twyla and Steph’s transporting music selection, this wedding felt straight out of a storybook.
Amber and John’s Perspective
How did our couple enjoy their destination wedding? Here’s what Amber and John had to say about their experience:
“I honestly don’t have the words to describe how grateful we are for everything you and your team did for us. I am genuinely still so moved by it. Being so far from home, I was genuinely nervous about how everything would come together, but the minute Caitlin [coordinator], Bryan [photographer] and Jasmine [videographer] walked into the room, all of that stress just melted away. They brought such a calming, positive energy with them, and I instantly felt at ease and honestly felt like I had known them for years. That feeling changed the tone of the day for me.
You managed to create something that was perfectly “us” throughout: relaxed, intimate, and full of joy. From the personalized touches, to the little surprises, to simply how kind and genuine everyone was, it meant more than I can express. It wasn’t just a wedding day; it was really a memory we will carry for the rest of our lives.”
