|

banff and canmore wedding venues

Banff and Canmore are both highly popular travel spots and have become the go-to wedding locations for many couples around the world. At Elope in Banff, we offer several packages at venues and curated sites in both Banff and Canmore, providing our clients with a wide variety of options for their wedding ceremonies.

If you’re considering an Alberta Rockies wedding, which town would you like to use for your upcoming nuptials? Keep reading to learn more about what these two locations have to offer and where you’d like to hold your wedding in the 2026/2027 season!

About Banff

Banff’s town and National Park is one of Canada’s most famous travel destinations. People from all around the world come here to see our 360° mountain views, skate on Lake Louise, ski down Mt. Rundle, take a dip in the Banff Hot Springs, and so much more!

Banff’s townsite is well-known for its charming historical architecture and walkable layout, offering a variety of fun activities, high-quality restaurants, and other recreational options to enjoy.

After your ceremony, you can enjoy plenty of fun classic Banff activities, from winter sports to hiking; it’s a dream wedding location for nature lovers and adventure seekers!

About Canmore

Canmore is just a few minutes’ drive away from Banff and offers many of the same attractions with a slightly more laid-back atmosphere. Unlike Banff, Canmore is not a traditional “tourist” town and is set up to mainly accommodate locals. While it’s still a draw for Rockies’ visitors, it boasts fewer crowds and has a more definitive “small town” vibe than Banff.

Our clients who prefer a quieter, more relaxed town will love Canmore’s authentic mountainside town vibe! Canmore is also home to several of our wedding venues, including the Silvertip Resort and Malcom Hotel.

Banff vs Canmore: Things to Consider

While these two townsites have a lot in common, they differ in a few ways that may help you determine which place suits your personalities and the atmosphere you want for your big day. Here are a few questions to consider:

What’s the town atmosphere like?

Despite Banff being a relatively small town, its energy and atmosphere are very city-like. Thousands of tourists visit Banff each month, with an average of 4 million per year. This means the Banff townsite and main tourist attractions are usually packed.

Banff is an ideal destination for those who want to enjoy a more natural setting while still reaping the benefits of the city.  If you’re having a micro wedding, your guests will also have plenty of options for nightlife and other recreation before and after the reception.

Canmore also draws many visitors, but it’s generally more laid back than Banff and has more of a “local” atmosphere. It’s also quieter than Banff, which gives it a small-town-in-the-mountains vibe that many visitors are after.

If you’re looking for a calm setting with fewer crowds, Canmore is a great place for a quiet, laid-back elopement or micro wedding.

What are hotel prices like?

While both Banff and Canmore are expensive, Canmore is generally considered to be the less expensive option, particularly for hotels and restaurants.

Please note that we require our clients to stay at a hotel in the town where their wedding venue is located; otherwise, a transportation fee will be charged. We recommend comparing hotel prices in both Banff and Canmore to see which aligns best with your budget!

How easy is it to get around?

Banff and Canmore are both very walkable towns that make it easy to get to and from shops, restaurants, and recreational activities. If you plan to enjoy most of your post-wedding activities in town, Banff offers easy accessibility to all its in-town attractions.

However, Canmore is not entirely pedestrian-friendly and does require a vehicle to get to certain areas of town.

Many of the natural attractions, such as Lake Louise and Moraine Lake, are also a fair distance from both towns and require a car or public transit to access.

What are the indoor/outdoor venue options?

When it comes to wedding venues, both Banff and Canmore offer a lot to choose from. At Elope in Banff, we offer several ceremony options for our Elopement and Micro Wedding packages.
