Why Banff Is on Every Couple’s Bucket List

Banff National Park is world-renowned — and for good reason. As a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it’s home to some of the most iconic scenery in Canada: snow-capped peaks, famous lakes, lush forests, and magical alpine meadows that offer the perfect backdrop for your special day. Banff stuns all year round, with every season bringing its own unique wonder for couples to experience.

Summer offers long, sunny days and a landscape bursting with vibrant wildflowers, greenery and more.

Autumn is full of a dramatic palette of golds, reds, and oranges that offer a vibrant backdrop.

Winter transforms the Rockies into a wonderland, with Banff shimmering under pristine snow and frozen lakes.

Spring teams with new life, with beautiful colours popping up around every corner as nature awakens from winter slumber.

No matter when you arrive, Banff delivers the kind of backdrop that feels straight out of a storybook and an intimate atmosphere that’s sure to let your love shine.

What International Couples Should Know About Eloping in Alberta

If you’re dreaming of a Banff elopement and plan on arriving from abroad, there are a few helpful facts you’ll want to know, including:

Where to fly into:

If you’ve never travelled to Banff before, you may not be aware that the closest international airport to fly into is located approximately 90 minutes away in Calgary, Alberta (YYC). YYC is a major hub with direct flights from the U.S., Europe, and Mexico, making it easy to get to Alberta.

Once you arrive, there are various ways to get to Banff, including booking a shuttle service, private transport, or renting a vehicle.  We recommend considering vehicle rentals for two reasons:1. You’ll have ample freedom to explore as you like, which is perfect for couples planning on taking a mini-moon post-ceremony

And

2. First-time visitors are often surprised by how big Banff National Park is. For example, Lake Louise and Moraine Lake are located 45 minutes to an hour outside of the Town of Banff, and having ready access to a vehicle makes it easier to take in the sights while still enjoying private time together.

Getting legally married in Alberta is simple for non-residents:

You don’t need to be a Canadian citizen to elope here. Alberta marriage licenses are easy to obtain once you arrive (just bring valid IDs and the documents we request in your wedding package). We’ll walk you through the process and make sure everything is squared away!

Plenty of beautiful places to stay:Banff and nearby Canmore offer a wide range of accommodation options, including AirBnbs (Canmore only), luxury hotels, mountain lodges, and more. Elope in Banff is happy to travel directly to your hotel* on your wedding day to help with preparations and take you to your venue for optimal convenience!

*Note: travel fees apply for couples marrying in Banff but staying in Canmore, and vice versa

Plan for the Weather (But Don’t Worry About It!): The weather in the Rockies is notoriously fickle, and for couples planning an outdoor ceremony, it’s always wise to have a few options on hand should Mother Nature decide to put on a show. Rain, snow, and even unseasonable warmth are all common occurrences in Banff, regardless of the time of year, so planning ahead is your best bet for comfort. With that being said, don’t fret too much about the weather! Elope in Banff has helped hundreds of couples tie the knot, and we know that some of the most magical moments (and dramatic photos!) happen during misty mornings or snowy afternoons! We also ensure we have a backup indoor venue ready to go if needed.
