Today, we’re walking you through a real wedding timeline from an actual couple’s Banff elopement.
While the exact details and schedule will depend on your specific choices, this will give you a good idea of how your celebration will unfold.

- An in-person consultation the day before your wedding

Your Banff National Park Wedding Timeline
The Day Before Your Elopement: Your Consultation
One of the biggest advantages of our Banff elopement packages? The day before your ceremony includes an in-person consultation where we walk you through everything, so you’ll head into your wedding day feeling relaxed and fully prepared.
10:00 AM — Meet at the Banff Registry Office
We’ll meet you at the Banff Registry to get your marriage license. Be sure that you both bring your driver’s licenses or passports (photo ID is required).
Please note that the registry is closed on Sundays and Mondays, and while they sometimes do special openings, it’s not guaranteed. So if you’re getting married on a Monday or a Tuesday, it’s best to plan to arrive a few extra days early.
From the registry, we’ll take you on a guided tour of Banff, so you can finalize your ceremony and photo locations. We’ll also review your vows, confirm details, and answer any last-minute questions.
If your attire needs steaming, bring it along with you, and we’ll take care of that too.
Time required: Approximately 2 hours
Wedding Day Timeline
8:00 AM — Eat Breakfast
Adrenaline tends to kick in on wedding mornings, and many couples forget to eat. This is your friendly reminder to fuel up for your big day.
9:00 AM — Hair & Makeup Begins
Your stylist will arrive at your hotel. Each of our Banff elopement packages includes professional hair and makeup for one person, so if that’s you, sit back and enjoy being pampered.
11:00 AM — Take a Moment to Relax
Once hair and makeup wrap up, take a breather. Drink some water, eat a snack, and soak in the excitement before the day really gets moving.
12:45 PM — Your Wedding Team Arrives
Your photographer, planner, and videographer (if added to your package) will arrive at your hotel with your florals in tow.
If you and your significant other decide to do a first look or not to see each other until the ceremony, you’ll get ready separately.
While most of the photography coverage happens later, we’ll usually capture a few candid moments before leaving the hotel.
1:15 PM — Leave for Your Ceremony Location
Your exact departure time depends on where you’re getting married. This itinerary is based on a Banff elopement, in which the couple stayed in Canmore.
The drive from the hotel to the ceremony site was a little over 20 minutes.
If you’re eloping at:
- Moraine Lake, it takes about an hour to get there.
- Peyto Lake, expect a longer drive, close to an hour and a half.
- Vermilion Lakes, you’ll have a much shorter travel time.

1:40 PM — Arrive at the Ceremony Site
If you’re bringing guests, your officiant and/or photographer will typically meet them at a designated location and guide them to the ceremony site.
2:00 PM — Ceremony Begins
Guests settle in, and the ceremony begins.
You’ll exchange vows with your loved ones (and the Rockies) as your witnesses.
For true elopements, this moment may be even more intimate with just the two of you, your officiant, photographer, and planner.
2:30 PM — Family Photos (If You’re Bringing Guests)
Immediately after the ceremony, we’ll move into:
- Family portraits
- Guest photos
- Group shots
3:15 PM — Couple Portraits Around Banff
Guests typically head back to the hotel, explore town, or make their way to your dinner reservation while we snap your portraits.
Most couples opt to take photos at one or two more locations, such as:
- Lake Minnewanka
- Vermilion Lakes
- Bow Falls
- Hidden gems we love
This portion often feels less like formal wedding photos and more like a mini adventure.
5:00 PM — Portraits Wrap Up
Your planner will bring you back to your hotel or directly to dinner. The rest of the evening is yours to enjoy as newlyweds!
6:00 PM — Celebration Dinner
This couple ended their day with dinner at the Vermillion Room in the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel.
