Looking for an ideal outdoor location in Canada’s Rockies to say “I do!”? Nestled in the heart of Banff National Park, Moraine Lake is an iconic destination known around the world for its crystal-clear turquoise waters, towering mountain peaks, and lush green forests, which create an unforgettable backdrop. Located just 20 minutes away from Lake Louise (another world-famous spot!), Moraine Lake is routinely voted as one of the most beautiful places on earth, making it the perfect spot to celebrate beginning the next chapter in your love story together.

At Elope in Banff, we love love, and what we love even more is helping couples create their dream micro wedding or elopement in Alberta’s Rockies. Our packages include favourite locations throughout Banff National Park and the surrounding region, including Moraine Lake. Below are some of the top things you need to know if you’re hoping to get married at Moraine Lake!

What is the Best Time to Get Married at Moraine Lake

One of the most important things to know if you’re planning to get married at Moraine Lake is that it is only open from early June until mid-October each year. Heavy snowfall conditions make the lake unsafe to access outside of this timeframe. While this window may be short, these months are also when the weather is ideal for experiencing Moraine Lake and afford you the chance to experience the full beauty of the area.

Elope in Banff can help you make the most of this window of beauty and plan a picture-perfect lakefront ceremony!

Getting to Moraine Lake

Another aspect you need to be aware of if you’re hoping to get married at the lake is the fact that Moraine Lake is not accessible to private vehicles. There are shuttle services that operate between Lake Louise and Moraine, but for wedding couples and their guests, it is advisable to hire a registered private driver. Elope in Banff provides transportation for our wedding couples in our Moraine Lake package and arranges additional transportation for wedding guests at an additional cost so everyone can easily get to your ceremony!

Attire

As with planning any outdoor ceremony in the Rockies, it’s important to consider  comfort and practicality when choosing your wedding attire.  If you plan to hike to a scenic viewpoint or navigate some of the rocky areas around the lake, choose footwear that’s both elegant and practical. Since temperatures can vary, particularly in the morning or evening, it’s also a good idea to bring a jacket or other layers to ensure you’re comfortable throughout your ceremony.

Most importantly: remember that this is your day and your chance to let your personality shine through, no matter what you choose to wear!
